Health & Bodyworks was the first group ever to introduce workshop certification training in barefoot Swedish massage with overhead bars in the United States.

Workshop Application & Registration

You must be a licensed massage therapist to take our courses. If you are still in massage school, we require that you have completed 75% of your required hours with a passing grade of a B average, and I will need a copy of your transcript. If you are in a state without licensure, I will need a transcript from a 200 hour massage therapy program showing your passing grades.

You are required to complete the workshop application in order to register. Early application & registration is advised as we have a maximum of 8 students per class. Barefoot Basics  is the beginner course  - start there. The Anterior/Sidelying and Advanced Ashiatsu courses both have prerequisites required, that cannot be skipped, and Ashi-Thai can come anytime after Barefoot Basics.

Payments

Deposit is NOT refundable unless workshop is cancelled by instructor. Should you choose to not participate fully in class, no monies paid shall be refunded. TN Massage & Bodywork will refund all monies for any cancelled seminar due to our responsibility. Deposits do not have a "roll over" value, meaning once you have registered for a course, you may not change the date you have chosen to attend that course. Please be sure of the date you are registering for prior to making your deposit. If you make a deposit at registration then your final payment is due prior to the start of the first day of class in the form of cash or a check. I am unable to take credits cards on the day of the workshop.

Making Travel Plans

When buying airfare, for those traveling from out of town, please DO NOT purchase non-changeable, non-refundable tickets. Please contact the instructor prior to purchasing airline tickets to make sure class will be held as scheduled. If for some reason we do not have enough interest to fill a particular class, the individual instructor reserves the right to cancel a class.

Learning Environment

During your study with us, you will feel every single stroke from your instructor. You will have an opportunity to work on the instructor as well. On the final day, we provide a public clinic/practical for the ultimate in learning retention. Making sure you are safely up and operational before you leave the workshop has been our acclaimed reputation for years. We set the standards when it comes to barefoot bar work and we deliver the most organized and supervised hands-on seminar in the industry. Massage therapists come in all shapes and sizes. Our teaching methodologies are designed to work with each practitioner’s skill level, physical characteristics and learning style.

Please be sure to contact your instructor prior to enrollment if you have any special needs or health issues that we need to be aware of so that we can ensure you have an incredible experience! If you are pregnant or trying to conceive, for the safety of you and your baby, please wait until after you deliver to attend class. If you’ve had any type of implants or major surgery within the past 9 months, please confirm with your physician and myself that this gravity assisted massage is not contraindicated for your condition. Each student will give and receive two or more hours of Ashiatsu on the first two days of class. Although Ashiatsu is incredibly relaxing, it is also a deep intense massage that is not appropriate for all conditions.

Strength & Flexibility

Whether you are male or female, any therapist that weighs over 180 pounds should contact me to discuss what is expected of your fitness level prior to registration sign up. We are happy to discuss with you through photos and verbal description the upper arm and core strength you will need to deliver a comfortable session to your receiving partner. Having balance and coordination skills are a must. The art of learning effleurage fluidly with the feet can be physically and mentally challenging. A successful learning environment depends on a “team operation” style workshop. If you have any concerns with weight, coordination, sight, hearing, recent injuries, learning disabilities, language barriers or any situation that may interfere with your fellow classmate’s learning process, please let us know in advance. Our main focus is on a quality workshop experience for all.

We do have suggested height and weight requirements for taking Barefoot Basics. Even though you are only using one foot on the body at a time, we ask that you are flexible enough to stand up & down from a 24 inch stool quickly and easily from the floor. You must be able to sit comfortably on a 29 inch stool with your knees close together in a canon ball position and be perfectly balanced. Please visit the Physical Requirements Page for more details. Remember that, for safety reasons, if you weigh over 200 pounds, you are required to bring your own portable massage table - preferably a 32-35" wide table. Must have a working weight capacity of at least 800 pounds - no metal/aluminum legs. We recommend the Earthlite Spirit, and can get you a discount on these tables if you need to purchase a new one. Please talk to Charlene prior to class for the details.

Registration Email

Once you have made your registration payment you will receive a confirmation email with instructions on preparing for class. Please read this email carefully and communicate any concerns with your instructor. We are not responsible for any mishaps that happen related to lodging, parking, missing supplies, being late for class, etc. Full course credit can only be given to those who are in full attendance.

Terms of Use

Everything you need to know about bar construction is discussed on the last day of the Barefoot Basics class. Please do not attempt to install bars prior to class without this information. You will receive a transcript that indicates your participation in the allocated number of credit hours for continuing education reporting upon completion.

CERTIFICATION in barefoot massage is not automatic. You will receive information during the Barefoot Basics workshop for completing the certification process and using the Ashiatsu DeepFeet Bar Therapy brand in your marketing and promotions.

All graduates of our program are held to a high ethical standard and must agree and adhere to this Ashiatsu Training and Use Agreement. The information and materials presented in class
